
Honourable Gary Rutty is the Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism and Trade Development. He has served as the Member of Parliament for George Town South since May 2025. A proud multi-generational Caymanian with roots extending back ten generations, he is deeply connected to the heritage of the Cayman Islands. With over 35 years in the restaurant and hospitality industries, he is the former owner of the local Burger King and Popeyes franchises. He successfully managed the Comfort Suites Cayman Islands boutique hotel for more than fifteen years. His entrepreneurial journey has created jobs, supported young Caymanian careers, and strengthened the local economy.
Minister Rutty’s public service includes roles on the Cayman Islands Government’s Central Tenders Committee and the Work Permit Board of the Workforce Opportunities & Residency Cayman. He served as a director of the Cayman Islands Merchant Association and the Chamber of Commerce. Known for his commitment to youth and community development, he is a founding member of the YMCA of the Cayman Islands and actively supports initiatives such as the Flag Football League, Little League, and Elite FC Football Club. He has leveraged his businesses to provide sponsorships, scholarships, and sports programmes for Cayman’s children.
Guided by the belief that the Cayman Islands need dedicated statesmen rather than career politicians, Minister Rutty is committed to addressing issues such as cost of living, immigration, and economic development. He and his wife, Angel, are the proud parents of Hannah, Gannon, and Raegan.
